They both aged. His wrinkles creased when he smiled. And so did hers, though perhaps a bit softer, gentler… He sat still, motionless right across from her. She came closer. They said nothing. She looked into his eyes, took his face into her hands and studied every feature of his older face. His eyes were clear. They spoke of depth. She saw the universe in them. All that is grand and beautiful. And she began to weep. For he never changed. His soul was the same. She wept because she knew him. She wept because he knew her. She wept because years and years have passed, and they still saw each other’s truths. The clarity and the mystery. The ancient stars, planets and their moons…Some things will never die.
