On Soulful Days

On Soulful Days

Both writing and painting have become friendly companions on soulful days. If I were asked to choose which one I prefer; I wouldn’t be able to decide. There is no first or second place winner. They’re both equally important, yet have very different personalities. Writing requires more thinking.  She and I usually interact during the night hours when it’s quiet and the thoughts wake up for a needed conversation. They like my attention, and eagerly dance with words on a page.  In contrast, painting is of different nature. It’s calm and relaxing.  My recent form of meditation.  It doesn’t need much, but a good light source, a blank canvas, and time. Painting asks for patience, and that’s why it’s a perfect playdate.  It helps me build what I lack.  And what I find most intriguing about art, is that it rarely comes out the way I envision it. Starting with one idea and ending somewhere else. The process is slow, sometimes frustrating when it’s not coming out right, but then somethings are added, subtracted and added a bit more. Eventually, the vision makes its way out to become what it was meant to be. It’s got everything that I could give…On those soulful days…
